JS’s Arrest for Boggs Shooting

8 August 1842

JS arrested on charge of being accessory in shooting of Lilburn W. Boggs; Orrin Porter Rockwell charged with shooting Boggs. Nauvoo Municipal Court issued writ of habeas corpus; arresting officers left JS and Rockwell in hands of City Marshal Henry G. Sherwood while they departed to obtain Governor Thomas Carlin’s advice, Nauvoo, Illinois.
