16 Aug. 1797–Feb. 1856. Farmer. Born in Bennington Co., Vermont. Son of Aaron Smith Sr. and Sylvia Bass. Resided in Stamford, Bennington Co., 1800. Resided in Medina Co., Ohio, 1820. Married Nancy Helmick, 1823, in Wayne Co., Ohio. Moved to Montville, Medina Co., by 1830. Associated with Methodist church. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by David Whitmer, June 1831, in Wayne Co., Ohio. Ordained an elder, by 2 Mar. 1836, in Kirtland, Geagua Co., Ohio. Moved to Racine Co., Wisconsin, ca. early 1836. Member of Nauvoo Masonic Lodge, 1843. Affiliated with James J. Strang’s Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints after JS’s death. Excommunicated from Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1 Feb. 1846. Formed own Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, ca. Nov. 1846. Excommunicated from Strangite church, Dec. 1846. Baptized into William E. McLellin’s Church of Christ, 13 Feb. 1847, in Kirtland; left church, by Mar. 1848. Resided in Hampton, Saginaw Co., Michigan, 1850. Baptized into Zarahemla branch of Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, July 1854, in Wisconsin. Joined H. H. Deam’s church and ordained a counselor in church’s presidency, 6 Oct. 1854. Died in Medina Co.
