Fielding, Amos

Biography

16 July 1792–5 Aug. 1875. Clerk, matchmaker, surveyor. Born in Lancashire, England. Son of Matthew Fielding and Mary Cooper. Christened Anglican. Immigrated to U.S., 1811; returned to Lancashire, by 1829. Married Mary Haydock, 28 June 1829, in Eccleston, Lancashire. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and ordained an elder, fall 1837. Resided in Liverpool, 1841. Served as church agent in Liverpool. Led group of emigrating British Latter-day Saints to Nauvoo, Hancock Co., Illinois, 1842. Member of Nauvoo Masonic Lodge. Admitted to Council of Fifty, 11 Mar. 1844. Served as church agent in England, 1844–1845, 1845–1846. Migrated to Salt Lake City, 1854. Died in Salt Lake City.
