Biography

30 Nov. 1803–15 Dec. 1875. Farmer. Born at Pittstown, Rensselaer Co., New York. Son of William Morey and Anda Martin. Moved to Collinsville, Butler Co., Ohio, 1814. Married Sylvia Butterfield, 29 Oct. 1825, at Butler Co. Moved to Vermillion Co., Illinois, 1831. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1833. Located in Clay Co., Missouri, 1834; in Kirtland, Geauga Co., Ohio, 1835–1836; and in Far West, Caldwell Co., Missouri, by Aug. 1837. Member of Zion high council in Far West, 1837–1838. Participated in skirmish at Crooked River, near Ray Co., Missouri, 25 Oct. 1838. Returned to Vermillion Co., by June 1840. Moved to Nauvoo, Hancock Co., Illinois, by 1841. Ordained a high priest, 1841. Constable in Nauvoo, 1841. Member of Nauvoo Legion. Supported Sidney Rigdon as successor to JS. Moved to Brown Co., Illinois, late 1844; to DeKalb Co., Illinois, 1849; and to Whiteside Co., Illinois, 1851. Settled at Hamilton Township, Decatur Co., Iowa, 1852. Presided over Little River branch of Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, in Pleasanton, Decatur Co., 1859. Died near Pleasanton.
