Biography

22 Mar. 1812–20 Dec. 1842. Teacher. Born in Tolland, Hampden Co., Massachusetts. Son of Phineas Barnes and Abigail Smith. Moved to eastern Ohio, 1815. Moved to Norton, Medina Co., Ohio, 1816. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, June 1833, in Norton. Ordained an elder by Sidney Rigdon, 18 July 1833. Served mission to western Ohio, 1833. Participated in Camp of Israel expedition to Missouri, 1834. Ordained a seventy, 2 May 1835, at Kirtland, Geauga Co., Ohio. Served mission to Virginia, 1835. Ordained a high priest, June 1838, at Adam-ondi-Ahman, Daviess Co., Missouri. Served as member of Adam-ondi-Ahman stake high council and as stake clerk. Appointed to serve mission to southern and eastern U.S., Sept. 1838. Served mission to England, beginning fall 1841. Presided over church conference in Bradford, Yorkshire, England. Died at Bradford.
