I hereby Certify that the sum of Ten Dollars has been this day allowed by the City Council, to be paid to City Surveyor, out of the City Treasury, which amount the City Treasurer will please pay him.

Ripley presented a claim to the Nauvoo City Council on 14 January 1843, which was allowed 11 February 1843. The order was presumably written after the claim was allowed, though Sloan dated it 30 January 1843. The transaction was recorded in the Nauvoo City Treasury Ledger on 24 February 1843.
