He said this Aronic Priesthood  had not the power of the laying on of hands  for the gift of the Holy Ghost but this <that> should  be confered upon us at some future time.  He also commanded us to go and be bap tized—that I should baptize and that he should then baptize me
He also said that his name was John; the  same that was called John the Baptist in the new  Testament—that he acted under the direction of  Peter, James & John who held the keys of the  priesthood of Melchisedeck which should  in due time be confered upon us— Accor dingly we went and wer baptized and or dained as directed by the Messenger on  the (15 day of (May <15> 1829)
Immediate ly upon our coming up out of the water  we experienced great and glorious blessin gs from our heavenly Father no No sooner  had I baptized than the  Holy Ghost fell upon him and he stood  up and prophesied many things which  should shortly come to pass. again so
I also had the spirit of propesy and  standing up I prophesied concerning the  <rise> Church rise of the church and many  things connected with it and this gener ation of the children of men We were  filled with the Holy-Ghost and rejoiced  in the God of our Salvation. Our  minds being now enlightened we began  to have the scriptures laid open to our  understanding and the true meaning  of the more misterious passages of were re vealed to us in a manner we had  never before thought of— In the mean  time we were forced to [p. 35]
