to carry the writings home and exibit them an[d]  desired me to enquire of the Lord through the Urim  and Thummin if he might do so I did enquire  and the answer was that he must not
He was not satisfied with this answer and desired  that I would enquire again I did so and the  answer was as before Still he could not be Satisfied  with this answer and desired that I would inqure  again contented and I insisted that I should enqure  once more After much solicitation I again enqu ired of the Lord and permission was granted on  certain conditions; which were, that he should show them  only to his Bro () his own <his> and and a Sister of  his In accordance with this last answer  I required of him that he should bind himself  in a covenant to me in the most solemn man ner that he would do as directed He bound himself  as I required took the writings and went his  way Notwithstanding the great restrictions that  had been laid upon him and the solem covenant  he had made with me he did show them to others and by  stratagem they were taken from him and they never  have been recovered In the mean time I went to  visit my s family at , After  returning to my p[l]ace in I was walking out  when behold the former heavenly Messenger  appeared and handed to me the Urim and  Thummin (for they had been taken from me  because of having wearied the Lord in asking  that might take the writings  which he lost by transgression) [p. 14]
