again make an offering unto the Lord in right eousness” He said this Aronic Priesthood had not  the power of the laying on of hands for the gift  of the Holy Ghost but that should be conferred  upon us at some future time He also commanded  us that we should go and be baptised— that I  should baptise and that he should  then baptise me He also said that his name  was John, the same that was called John the  Babtist in the New Testament— that he acted under  the direction of Peter James and John who held  the keys of the Priesthood of Melchisadeck which  should in due time be conferred upon us  According we went and were baptised as the  directed by the messenger (May 15 1829)
Immediately upon our coming up out of the water  we experienced great and glorious blessings from  our heavenly Father No sooner had I bap tized than the Holy Ghost fell  upon him and he fell a stood up and prophesied  many things which should come to p shortly come  to pass I also had the spirit of prophecy and  standing up I prophesied concerning the rise of  the Church and many things connected with it and  this generation of the children of men We were  filled with the Holy Ghost and rejoiced in  the God of our salvation Our minds being now  enlightened we began to to have the scriptures  laid open to our understanding and the true meaning  of the more mysterious passages were revealed to us  in a manner we had never thougth thought of  In the mean time we were forced to keep our [p. 35]
