See also this History Page 56  [“]and truly manifest by their works that they  have received of the Spirit of Christ unto the  remission of their sins.[”] This quotation he said  was incorrect and added. “I command you  in the name of God to erase those words that  no priest craft be among us”
I immediately wrote him in reply asking by  what authority he commanded me to alter or  erase to add to or diminish from any comm andment or revelation from Almighty God
In a few days I visited him and found  that and family had imbibed the  same opinion and it was with great diffi culty that I could convince any of them  that the doctrine contained in the senteance  was in strict accordance with those of the  scriptures and was in fact a revelation from  God At length became  Convinced that this was the case and by his  assistance succeeded in convincing the remain der of the family and confessed  his error. We drew a lesson from this  calculated to teach us the necessity of humility  and prayer that he would teach us his ways  and that we should not decide in rashness rashly or <in>  haste
Early in August and  visited me in Pa. and as neither his   nor mine had been confirmed it was  proposed that before our visit come to a close  we should attend to that ordinance as well as  that of administering the sacrament.
