Grandin, Egbert Bratt

Biography

30 Mar. 1806–16 Apr. 1845. Printer, newspaper editor and publisher, butcher, shipper, tanner. Born in Freehold, Monmouth Co., New Jersey. Son of William Grandin and Amy Lewis. Moved to Williamson, Ontario Co., New York, by 1810; to Pultneyville, Ontario Co., by 1813; back to Williamson, by 1820; and to Palmyra, Wayne Co., New York, by 1828. Married Harriet Rogers, 23 Dec. 1828, in Palmyra. Printed first edition of Book of Mormon, 1829–1830, in Palmyra. Served as village corporation trustee, 1831; clerk of village board of election inspectors, 1834; constable and collector, 1835; and town assessor, 1839–1841. Buried in Palmyra Cemetery, Palmyra.
