Elect

Summary

God’s chosen and covenant people; in some cases, an individual appointed to a particular calling. In September 1830, a JS revelation defined the elect as those who hear the Lord’s voice and “harden not their hearts.” On 20 July 1831, a JS revelation identified Missouri as the “land of Zion” and a gathering place for the elect. The Saints were commissioned to gather the elect to Zion in preparation for Jesus Christ’s second coming. JS taught that all could become elected to salvation through obedience to latter-day revelation.
