Editorial Note
On 12 May 1843, the Quorum of the Twelve, which had been authorized by a church conference in April 1843 to raise funds for the , scheduled a trip to , Illinois, for JS, , , and “B Nobles”—possibly . The four men left for Lima the following day, while , who was keeping JS’s journal, remained in . Woodruff noted that on 14 May, JS spoke on knowledge, having one’s calling and election made sure, and the “more sure word of prophecy,” after which George A. Smith “followed with a few remarks.” At a meeting held later that day, Woodruff and George A. Smith spoke on “obeying the Commandments by building the Nauvoo House.” After the meetings, Woodruff wrote, they “all rode to Lima & took supper,” suggesting that the meetings had been held in nearby Yelrome, a settlement of church members. JS and the others returned to Nauvoo on 15 May 1843.
