1809–5 July 1869. Printer, carpenter, journeyman. Born in U.S. Married first Susan Wheeler, 1827. Married second Lydia Fox. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, by 1836. Moved to Kirtland, Geauga Co., Ohio, and ordained an elder, by 1836. Appointed counselor to Alvah Beman in presidency of elders quorum in Kirtland, 25 Jan. 1836. Stockholder in Kirtland Safety Society. Appointed president of elders quorum, 27 Nov. 1837, after Beman’s death. Moved to Missouri with Kirtland Camp, 1838; to Far West, Caldwell Co., Missouri, before 1839; and to Quincy, Adams Co., Illinois, Apr. 1839. Settled family in Commerce (later Nauvoo), Hancock Co., Illinois, Sept. 1839. Ordained a seventy, before 21 Sept. 1839. Left to serve mission to England, Sept. 1839; arrived in Liverpool, 6 Apr. 1840, and returned, Apr. 1841. Ordained a high priest, 3 Oct. 1841, in Nauvoo. Member of Nauvoo Masonic Lodge. Presided over British mission, Oct. 1843–Jan. 1845, Jan.–July 1846. Disfellowshipped, 16 July 1846. Excommunicated, 17 Oct. 1846, at Manchester, Lancashire, England. Married third Mary A., by 1851. Lived in Marylebone, London, England, 1851, and in Croydon, Sussex Co., England, 1861. Died at Gravesend, Kent Co., England.
