wisdom and expedient in me, that my servant , whose offering I have accepted, and whose prayers I have heard; unto whom I give a promise of eternal life inasmuch as he keepeth my commandments from henceforth; for he is a descendant of Seth [Joseph], and a partaker of the blessings of the promise made unto his fathers. Verily I say unto you, it is expedient in me that he should become a member of the order, that he may assist in bringing forth my word unto the children of men: therefore ye shall ordain him unto this blesssing: and he shall seek diligently to take away incumbrances, that are upon the house named among you, that he may dwell therein; even so: Amen.

Section 98 • Revelation, 16–17 December 1833 [D&C 101]
SECTION XCVIII.

Revelation given December, 1833.

1 Verily, I say unto you, concerning your brethren who have been afflicted, and persecuted, and cast out from the land of their inheritance, I the Lord have suffered the affliction to come upon them, wherewith they have been afflicted in consequence of their transgressions; yet, I will own them, and they shall be mine in that day when I shall come to make up my jewels.
2 Therefore, they must needs be chastened, and tried, even as Abraham, who was commanded to offer up his only son; for all those who will not endure chastening, but deny me, cannot be sanctified. [p. 365]
