The first item to which I would call your attention to  is the subject of the “Gathering” which is necessary for the  saints to attend to; so that the purposes of our God may be  accomplished, and that they may be obdedient to the command ment of heaven: See Book of Doct & Covts page 124 Section 13  Paragr 18th. . Again see the appendix to the same page 247  Section 100 also page 113 Section 10. &c I might call your  attention to a many more passages from the Old Scriptures  Book of Mormon: Book of Doct & Covn but forbear believing  that you are familiar with the most of them—
However specious the appearance of things may be  at present, and the cry of Peace and Safety is heard from  every quarter, yet the time is coming “when sudden destruc tion shall come upon them wicked even as a whirlwind and  they shall not escape” but the saints shall dwell secure  if faithful and “shall be accounted worthy to escape those  things which are coming on the earth”— Again it is not only  the duty of the saints to gather together in order to escape the  calamities which must fall upon the ungodly— but that  they may by an Union and concentration of their energies  be in a situation to do more good, than they otherwise could  if seperated by such vast distances and likewise have  the priviledge of hearing the instructions which may be  Communicated through the prophet of the Lord, a priveledge  which I dare say all the saints will properly appreciate;  and also receive council from those who are in Authority in  the Church of Christ
I do not write these things believing that any in difference of backwardness exists on your part, but that I  may “stir up your pure minds by way of rememberance”  so that all your movements of a Temporal nature may be  in accordance therewith, and that there may be sufficient  means and people to build up this stake and forward the  printing of the Book of Mormon Doctrine & Covenants. Hymn Book  and the new translation of the old Scriptures &c &c which  must be printed under the immediate inspection of those  into whose care they are especially committed. See Doc &  Covts Section 26— Page 153— altho some of those <who were> appointed [p. 83]
