Nauvoo City Council Meeting, 20 August 1842

Calendar of Documents
The following is a calendar of documents known to be related to this meeting of the city council. In cases where there are multiple versions of documents, particularly city ordinances, all versions are listed here, with links to versions that are extant. Documents are listed on this calendar only when there is evidence that a separate document was created. Because it is not clear that parliamentary procedure was consistently followed in city council meetings, mere mention of a motion in the minutes is not sufficient evidence that a separate document was created as a result. For more information, see Introduction to Nauvoo City Council Records.

1842 (10)

July (2)

13 July 1842

James Sloan, Report, to Nauvoo City Council, Nauvoo, Hancock Co., IL
1

Report certifying the days Hugh McFall attended meetings as a member of the city council. (See Claim from Hugh McFall, 8 July 1842; and Nauvoo City Council Rough Minute Book, Jan.–Nov. 1842, 36.)

  • 13 July 1842; Nauvoo, IL, Records, CHL; handwriting of James Sloan.
18 July 1842

Albert P. Rockwood and Others, Petition, Nauvoo, Hancock Co., IL, to Nauvoo City Council
1

Petition requesting the city council to pass an ordinance to remove driftwood from the edge of the Mississippi River. There is not indication when or if this petition was submitted to the city council. Nothing in the minutes indicates that this petition was discussed or acted upon. Petitions were generally presented at the next regular meeting of the city council, which would have been 20 August 1842. For that reason, it is included with the documents discussed at the 20 August meeting, though there were four other special council meetings between 18 July and 20 August where it also could have been discussed.

  • 18 July 1842; Nauvoo, IL, Records, CHL; handwriting of Albert P. Rockwood; signatures of 129 individual petitioners.
