Receiver’s Office, Receipt, to JS, Lexington, Lafayette Co., MO, 22 June 1836; printed form with manuscript additions in the handwriting of E. M. Ryland; signature and endorsement in handwriting of E. M. Ryland; Land Entry Case File 7874; Record Group 49, Records of the Bureau of Land Management, National Archives and Records Administration, Washington DC.One leaf, measuring 4½ × 7¾ inches (11 × 20 cm). The document appears to have been cut out of an unknown ledger, with the left and bottom sides of the recto unevenly cut. The document was folded once at the bottom third of the leaf. Two diagonal cuts in the shape of an “X” were made through the signature of E. M. Ryland.This document and a register’s office certificate were sent together to the General Land Office in for approval, then returned to the Land Office in , Missouri, and filed there. Records from the Lexington Land Office were relocated to the Bureau of Land Management when the Lexington Land Office closed in 1922. By 1953 the land records held by the Bureau of Land Management had been transferred to the National Archives and Records Administration in Washington DC.

RECEIVED from Joseph Smith Jr. of [blank] county the sum of Ninety eight & 20/100 dollars, being in full for West 1/2 of the s.E. southeast 1/4 of section no Twenty two township No. Fifty six ([blank]) north of the base line and west of the fifth principal meridian, range No. Twenty nine containing seventy eight & 56/100 acres, at the rate of $ 125 per acre.
