Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by his brother Joseph Young, 6 Oct. 1833, in Hector, Tompkins Co., New York. Ordained an elder, ca. 1834. Moved to Kirtland, Geauga Co., Ohio, 1834. Served mission to Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York, 1834, and established branch in Nunda, Livingston Co., New York. Assisted in construction of Kirtland temple. Ordained a seventy, by 1836. Moved to Missouri, ca. 1838–1839. Returned to Kirtland, by 1841. Ordained a high priest by Lyman Wight and John P. Greene, 1841. Served as counselor in Kirtland stake presidency, 1841–1845, and as Kirtland stake president, 1845–1847. Migrated to Salt Lake Valley, Oct. 1847. Ordained a patriarch, 8 Oct. 1853. Died at Salt Lake City.
