Biography
27 Jan. 1816–21 June 1883. Justice of the peace, politician, farmer. Born in New Lisbon, Otsego Co., New York. Son of Spencer Harrington and Polly Evans. Married Lois Russell, 3 Feb. 1840, in Newstead, Erie Co., New York. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by Charles Thompson, Apr. 1840. Moved to Nauvoo, Hancock Co., Illinois, summer 1842. Served as justice of the peace in Nauvoo, 1843–1846. Migrated to Salt Lake Valley with Abraham O. Smoot and Samuel Russell pioneer company, fall 1847. Moved to American Fork, Utah Co., Utah Territory, 1850. Appointed bishop of American Fork, 1851. Served in Utah State House of Representatives, 1852–1882. Served as mayor of American Fork, 1853–1882. Served on first board of trustees of Brigham Young Academy at Provo, Utah Co., 1875–1883. Died in American Fork.
