Biography

28 July 1800–5 Sept. 1864. Teacher, lawyer, judge. Born in Goshen, Litchfield Co., Connecticut. Son of Isaiah Humphrey and Lorana Drake. Admitted to bar, 1820. Married first Stella Beach, 12 Apr. 1821, in Goshen. Moved to Hudson, Summit Co., Ohio, June 1821. Elected justice of the peace, 1824. Elected to Ohio House of Representatives, 1828, 1829. Wife died, 1832. Elected by Ohio legislature as president judge of Court of Common Pleas for the Third Judicial District, 1837–1844. Presiding judge for several Geauga Co. legal proceedings involving JS, 1837–1839. Married second Laura M. O. Tallmage, 22 Aug. 1839, in Warren, Trumbull Co., Ohio. Served as mayor, 1851–1852, in Hudson. Among directors of Clinton Line Extension Railroad, 1853. President of Summit Co. Agricultural Society, 1859. Died at Hudson.
