Biography

Ca. 1815–after 1872. Cabinet maker. Born in Tennessee. Son of Reuben Steffey and Elvira Hays. Moved to Grainger Co., Tennessee, before June 1830; to Mount Tabor, Monroe Co., Indiana, before May 1839; and to Henderson Co., Illinois, before Dec. 1842. Married Laurhuhumah Landers, 20 Dec. 1842, in Henderson Co. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, by Oct. 1843. Ordained an elder by Willard Richards, George Miller, and Peter Haws, 29 Oct. 1843, in Nauvoo, Hancock Co., Illinois. Moved to Republic of Texas, after Oct. 1843. Returned to Mount Tabor, before June 1850. Returned to Texas, after 1851. Moved to Vincennes, Knox Co., Indiana, before 1862; to Bruceville, Knox Co., Dec. 1863; to Iola, Allen Co., Kansas, before Apr. 1867; and to Erath Co., Texas, by 1872.
