Newark, New Jersey
Summary
City in northeast New Jersey situated on west side of Passaic River. Located about nine miles west of New York City and forty-nine miles northeast of Trenton, New Jersey. Settled 1666. County seat. Population in 1830 about 11,000; in 1840 about 17,000; and in 1850 about 39,000. Branch of church in city consisted of twelve members, May 1844.
