George B. Walbridge
Summary
A wholesale grocery firm operated by George B. Walbridge and others in Buffalo, New York, from 1835 to 1855. The firm sold goods to Rigdon, Smith & Cowdery on 18 June 1836. Walbridge entered a partnership with Albert Hayden, establishing Walbridge & Hayden, & Co., in 1838. After nearly a decade, their partnership was dissolved. Walbridge partnered with his nephew Wells D. Walbridge in 1847, and the firm was expanded to include a commercial shipping and mercantile business. For nearly four years, Walbridge & Co. moved freight by steam and propeller ships between Buffalo and other major ports on Lake Erie. Walbridge died on 30 August 1852. His nephew maintained the firm until 1855, when he accepted a secretary position with the American Transport Company.
