Summary
Derived from the French word meaning “to find”; the action is brought to recover the value of personal property that was wrongfully taken. William Blackstone’s influential commentary on English law indicated that trover was used “for recovery of damages against such person as had found another’s goods, and refused to deliver them on demand, but converted them to his own use.”
