to do any thing for us he dont think it would afford us any relief, it would not stop the shedding of blood. We have been trying for fourteen years to take a course that men could not legally take exceptions to, but they take exceptions to every thing we do. He has no friendship for any thing but this church and this kingdom. He has no regard for any thing but God and his church, he dont care a damn for the rest. They may go to hell with their laws and all belonging to them. We have time after time when persecuted by them reached out our hands for protection and it has always brought a torrent of wrath and persecution upon us. We never enjoyed any liberty untill we cut the cords that bound us to them and looked to ourselves [p. [159]]
