[It] is with no ordinary feeling that I [a]t this time Address my self to the [au]thoratys [authorities] of the [o]n a subject that is arousing the [a]ttention of almost every freeman [a]s far as the name of Mormon is [k]nown As I long have had a standing [w]ith them I have ben prejudised [f]or them but at the same time I [h]ave kept in vew of Wright and wrong And have a reco[r]d if partial it is in [b]ehalf of the Saints As When I united [tr]ied to united with a people of God, but [fr]om that time untill this I have took [a] retrospective vew of things that have [tra]nspired and have it in writing at [m]y Command now As a friend to man And a friend to the Latter day saints cal[l]ed [I] freely speak to you my mind That as [yo]u say to be a people of God and a people [th]at receive direct Revelations from the [hea]ven and are governed by them this you know to be the theme. At the same time you know what is afloat at this time and has ben from time to time Now you know and I know how things have ben and now is Now I will say to you with the best of feeling that unless you [p.
