An Ordinance to amend an Ordinance entitled “An Ordinance organizing the , passed Feb.y. 3rd. 1841”.
Sec. 1. Be it, and it is hereby ordained by the City Council of the City of , that the Lieutenant General of the Nauvoo Legion shall not be required to act as the President of any Court Martial, or of the Legion; also, that he may add to his staff a Chief Chaplain, with the Rank of Colonel.
Sec. 2. That officers may be elected without being nominated by the Court Martial, and that all vacancies shall be filled by lawful elections, and not by granting Brevet Commissions.
Sec 3. That the General Officers may appoint such officers in their respective Staffs as may be in Conformity with the rules and regulations of the Army.
Sec. 4. That so much of the 3rd. Section of the Ordinance Organizing the Nauvoo Legion, approved Feb.y. 3rd., 1841, as authorizes the Mayor General to act as the Secretary of the Court Martial and Legion, and Adjutant, and Inspector General, is hereby repealed. Sec. [p. 93]
