Biography

13 Aug. 1815–20 Jan. 1842. Schoolteacher, farmer, clerk. Born in Ashtabula Co., Ohio. Son of Salmon Gee and Sarah (Sally) Watson Crane. Moved to Richfield, Ashtabula Co., by 1820; to Geauga Co., Ohio, 1828; and to Madison, Geauga Co., by 1830. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 17 Feb. 1833, in Kirtland, Geauga Co. Moved to Kirtland, 1834. Married Mary Jane Smith, 5 Feb. 1837, in Kirtland. Moved to Caldwell Co., Missouri, 1838; to Fredricksburg, Ray Co., Missouri, 1838; and to Ambrosia, Lee Co., Iowa Territory, ca. 1839. Taught school in Quincy, Adams Co., Illinois, fall 1839. Ordained an elder, 5 Oct. 1839, in Commerce (later Nauvoo), Hancock Co., Illinois. Served mission to Tennessee, Nov. 1839–Mar. 1840. Appointed church recorder, 9 Aug. 1841, in Zarahemla, Lee Co. Left to serve mission to Pittsburgh, fall 1841. Died in Pittsburgh.
