Lawrence, Henry William
Biography
18 July 1835–5 Apr. 1924. Merchant, politician. Born in Pickering, York Co. (later in Ontario), Upper Canada. Son of Edward Lawrence and Margaret Major. Immigrated to Lima, Adams Co., Illinois, by Feb. 1839. Father died, between 5 Nov. and 23 Dec. 1839. JS became legal guardian, 4 Jan. 1841. Migrated to Salt Lake Valley in 1852. Served as major in Utah territorial militia, 1857. Served as marshal for Utah Territory, 1862–1863. Married Jennette Sophia Kimball, 31 Dec. 1862, in Salt Lake City. Joined William Godbe’s Church of Zion (Godbeites) in Salt Lake City. Excommunicated from Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Dec. 1869. Joined Unitarian church, 1891. Died in Salt Lake City.
