30 May 1811–18 May 1895. Lawyer. Born in Henderson, Jefferson Co., New York. Son of Daniel Barney and Sally Bucklin. Married first Susan Aspinwall Tappan. Graduated from Union College in Schenectady, Schenectady Co., New York, 1833. Admitted to New York bar, 1836. Moved to New York City, 1840. On behalf of Abijah Fisher, offered to sell land in Nauvoo, Hancock Co., Illinois, to Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Moved to Brooklyn, Kings Co., New York, by 1850. Incorporator of American Geographical and Historical Society, 1854. Appointed collector of Port of New York by Abraham Lincoln, 1861. Moved to Yonkers, Westchester Co., New York, by 1870. Wife died, 15 Sept. 1873. Moved to Spuyten Duyvil, Bronx Co., New York, by Aug. 1880. Married second Harriet E. Kilbourne, 26 Aug. 1880, in Brooklyn. Died at Spuyten Duyvil.
