Biography

22 Feb. 1805–12 Dec. 1882. Lawyer, judge. Born in Estill Co., Kentucky. Son of Bennet Clark and Martha. Moved to Howard Co., Missouri, 1817. Trained as a lawyer under Peyton R. Hayden, 1825–1827; passed Missouri bar, 1827. Active in local politics, 1828. Married first Martha Lewis, 19 Mar. 1833, in Howard Co. Served as circuit attorney in Linn Co., Missouri, 1837. Prosecuting attorney for cases of JS and others charged with riot, arson, and treason, 1839. Moved to Chillicothe Township, Livingston Co., Missouri, 1840. Judge of Missouri Eleventh Circuit Court, 1841–ca. 1861. Moved to Chariton Co., Missouri, by 1844. Wife died, 15 July 1845. Married second Mary Jane Lewis, 5 Jan. 1847. Moved to Linneus, Linn Co., 1878. Buried in Linneus.
