Rudd, John, Jr.
Biography
16 June 1779–after 1835. Distiller. Born at Bennington, Bennington Co., Vermont. Son of John Rudd and Chloe Hills. Moved to Richfield, Otsego Co., New York, by Aug. 1800. Married first Avis Whitaker, 1 Feb. 1801. A pioneer settler of Springfield, Erie Co., Pennsylvania, 1802. Married second Rosanna Jackson of Bennington, ca. 1804. Purchased land in Salem Township (later Conneaut Township), Ashtabula Co., Ohio, 14 Feb. 1809. Moved to Salem Township, by 1811. Served in War of 1812. Served as Salem Township clerk, 1814. Returned to Springfield, by Aug. 1820. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by Samuel H. Smith, ca. 22 Feb. 1832, at Springfield. JS held meeting at Rudd home while traveling to and from the East, 6 Oct. 1833. Gave small sum of money to assist JS in meeting his obligations, Dec. 1835.
