Biography

1 Apr. 1809–5 Dec. 1895. Farmer, freighter. Born in Greenwich, Washington Co., New York. Son of John Tanner and Lydia Stewart. Moved to Northwest Bay (near Bolton), Warren Co., New York, 1818. Married first Louisa Conlee, 1 Mar. 1830, in Greenwich. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1832. Moved to Kirtland, Geauga Co., Ohio, by June 1835; to Far West, Caldwell Co., Missouri, by Sept. 1837; and to Quincy, Adams Co., Illinois, by 1840. Member of Fourth Quorum of the Seventy. Wife died, 29 Sept. 1846, at Winter Quarters, U.S. unorganized territory (later in Omaha, Douglas Co., Nebraska). Married second Julia Ann Shepherd, 1 Dec. 1846. Migrated to Salt Lake Valley with Willard Richards pioneer company, 1848. Moved to San Bernardino, Los Angeles Co., California, by June 1852. Moved to Beaver, Beaver Co., Utah Territory, 1858. Died in Beaver.
