Rock River

Summary

Consists of three branches that rise in Washington and Fond du Lac counties in southeastern Wisconsin. Branches conjoin in Dodge Co., Wisconsin, and river then flows southwestward about three hundred miles to confluence with Mississippi River near Rock Island, Illinois. Agricultural and mining region through which river flowed was also referred to as Rock River. William Clayton and Stephen Markham were sent by JS to obtain corn and wheat from Rock River area, May 1844, and to attend court case in nearby Dixon. See also “.”
