Township and post office located about ninety-five miles west of Springfield, Illinois. Laid out, 1835. Population in 1840 about 100. John Harper, candidate for Illinois legislature, corresponded with JS from St. Mary’s Township regarding Harper’s popularity among Latter-day Saints.
