JS’s 1830 revision of Genesis included a passage describing Satan’s expulsion from the presence of Deity for rebellion, for seeking “to destroy the agency” of humankind, and for desiring God’s “own power.” (Old Testament Revision 1, p. 6 [Moses 4:3]; see also Revelation 20:1–3.)

In early 1841, JS taught that “the great principle of happiness consists in having a body. The Devil has no body, and herein is his punishment.” (Accounts of Meeting and Discourse, 5 Jan. 1841.)

See Job 1:7.

In early 1841, JS twice referenced the account of Jesus exorcising a possessed individual and sending the evil spirits into swine. (See Matthew 8:30–32; Accounts of Meeting and Discourse, 5 Jan. 1841; and Discourse, ca. 28 Mar. 1841.)
