September 12, 1837— Upon the oath of Joseph Smith, jr. granted <issued> a warrant for the said Abram Ritch, to , constable, which was returned on the 14th with the body of the defendant. On application of the complainant granted subpoenas for Daniel Kerr, Jonathan Goldsmith, John Featherlee, <Joel Taylor> , George Pease, David Kingsley, , and .
The parties being ready, the court was called, the defendand [defendant] pleaded “Not guilty, to the charge, and the cause adjourned to one part of the building recently occupied by Boynton, Johnson & Co. as a Dry-Gods Goods Store. John Featherlee, , Joseph Smith, jr.
