In haste I drop you this line to inform you that I should have been home long ago but I learn that a gag law is now in force in that . now I hope that you will be faithfull over your stewardship and then I will reward you accordingly Sarah [Phinney Foster] is almost worn out she is in at the National Hotel and Sam & is there but I am in and I do intend to have my rights in I wish you to see and keep all my things right, if there is any attempt upon my property let me know even by express if necessary for my benefit and I will come if they kill me I wish Jenny would go to to my wife to take care of Dick or else send Hannah [p. [1]]
