On 6 November 1841, the Nauvoo city council resolved that the city assessor (Lewis Robison) should “be instructed to assess all property both real & personal within the City Limits, which is Taxable by the State, for state, or County purposes.” On 22 January 1842, Robison submitted this assessment book to the council. (Nauvoo City Council Minute Book, 6 Nov. 1841, 29; 22 Jan. 1842, 51.
