Docketing on the back of the note indicates it was filed with other claims against JS’s estate in the Hancock County Probate Court in , Illinois, in 1845. Sometime in the ensuing decades, it was removed from the custody of the court. In 2008, the document was for sale in the F. G. Williams & Co. catalog produced by Lyndon W. Cook. As of 2022, the note was in private possession.
