The custodial history of this document is largely unknown. In 2019, the Joseph Smith Papers Project acquired a digital image of the document when it was in the custody of Moon’s Rare Books, a book and manuscript store operated by Reid Moon in Provo, Utah. As of 2022, the document is presumably in private possession.
On or before the Twenty fourth day of January one thousand eight hundred and forty five, For value, received; I promise to pay Joseph Smith or bearor Two hundred dollars with Interest at six per cent per annum.—
