The dateline on this note is missing. The text of the note indicates that interest is to be paid every year on the “eighth day of May.” Other notes from 1839 and 1840 have interest due on the day of the initial transaction, suggesting this note was created on 8 May. It is possible this note could be dated any year from 1840 to 1845, but 1840 makes the most sense as late 1839 and early 1840 is when these types of land transactions were taking place.
