Wrapper for Letters, ca. 15 Feb. 1844; handwriting of Otis Hobart; docket and notation in handwriting of ; one page; JS Collection, CHL.
Single sheet measuring 12⅛ × 8⅞ inches (31 × 23 cm). The sheet wrapped two letters dated 15 February 1844 from and others in . The wrapper and letters were folded three times horizontally and twice vertically, addressed, and sealed with two adhesive wafers (not extant). Marked water damage resulted in weakened folds on the wrapper and complete separation and loss of a portion of it.
The wrapper was docketed by , who served as JS’s scribe from December 1841 until JS’s death in June 1844 and served as church historian from December 1842 until his own death in March 1854, and contains notations made by him. By 1973 the document had been included in the JS Collection at the Church Historical Department (now CHL). The document’s early docket and notations and its inclusion in the JS Collection suggest continuous institutional custody.
