Biography

30 Sept. 1805–2 Sept. 1884. Teacher, sheriff, farmer, cattle breeder. Born in New Hartland, Hartford Co., Connecticut. Son of Nathaniel Spencer and Lydia Douglas. Moved to Claridon, Geauga Co., Ohio, ca. 1811. Joined Ohio state militia, ca. 1823. Congregationalist. Married Julia C. Kellogg, 25 Sept. 1834, in Geauga Co. Member of jury in case of D. Lake v. JS, June 1835. Sheriff of Geauga Co., 1840–1844. Sheriff in several cases involving JS, 1841–1843. Director of Painesville & Hudson Railroad Company for fifteen years. Moved to Chardon, Geauga Co., 1873. Died in Chardon.
