Williams, John Wilson
Biography
25 Mar. 1816–29 Aug. 1893. Surveyor. Born in Charlotte, Chittenden Co., Vermont. Son of John Wilson Williams and Minerva Barnes. Moved to Morgan Co., Illinois, where he was appointed deputy county surveyor, 1837. Moved to Hancock Co., Illinois. Served as county surveyor, 1837–ca. 1849, and as U.S. deputy surveyor for surveyor general’s office in St. Louis. Surveyed land for JS, 29 June and 1 July 1841. Married Julia Ann Robison, 1 Dec. 1847, in Des Moines Co., Iowa. Moved to Huron, Des Moines Co., 1849. Represented Des Moines Co. in Iowa House of Representatives, 1852–1862, 1866, 1880. Elected trustee of Iowa Agricultural College, 1866. Elected to Iowa Senate, 1874. Died in Huron.
