Biography

8 Apr. 1826–22 May 1910. Teacher, clerk, farmer. Born in Attica, Genesee Co., New York. Son of Samuel Miles and Prudence Marks. Moved to Freedom, Cattaraugus Co., New York, by June 1830. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by Solomon Warner, Apr. 1836, in New Portage, Medina Co., Ohio, en route to Far West, Caldwell Co., Missouri. Moved to Lima, Adams Co., Illinois, 1839. Moved to Commerce (later Nauvoo), Hancock Co., Illinois, fall 1839. Served in Mormon Battalion, 1846. Served as justice of the peace, 1847, in California. Migrated to Salt Lake Valley, Sept. 1848. Married Hannah Marinda Colborn, 6 Sept. 1849. Ordained a seventy, 18 Jan. 1851. Served mission to California, 1857. Served colonizing mission to St. George, Washington Co., Utah Territory, Oct. 1862. Ordained a high priest by Erastus Snow, 12 May 1867. Moved to Bloomington, Washington Co., by 1 June 1900. Returned to St. George, ca. 1905. Served as a patriarch. Died in St. George.
