On 24 March 1845 a petition intended for the county commissioners’ court was read and presented to the bishops of the church to obtain signatures. In April 1845 that court divided the two existing Nauvoo precincts into ten. However, in June the court rescinded this decision and instead divided the prior two precincts into four.
