<6th> of <April> 1841— Genl Smith appointed <> & his aid de Camps—

On the 3rd day of July 1841 the Legion was called out to celebrate (our National Independence <the 4t◊ being Sunday> and was reviewed by Lieutenant General Joseph Smith. Who made an Eloquent and patriotic speech to the troops and strongly testified of his regard for our national welfare and his willingness to lay down his life for his in defence of his country if need be and closed with these <remarkable> words emphatically spoken “I would ask no greater boon than to lay down my life for my country.”)
On the 11th day of September 1841 the Legion was called out for general parade bya <in according <accordance> with> Special call <act> of the Court martial and was reviewed by Genl Smith who delivered a Military Speech to the troops <and numerous spectators> in his usual and energetic stile

On the 7th day of May 1842 the Legion was called out by virtue of the above order, and reviewed by Genl Smith who also addressed the troops as usual
The Legion <in the after noon was seperated> wasdividedbyunto <into> Cohorts and f[o]ught an interisting and anamated sham battle, the first Cohort under the Command of Genl and the Second Cohort under <the Command of> Genl [p. 5]
