at the suggestion of Lieutenant General Joseph Smith. and also ordered Brigadier General to organize the Second Batalion first Regiment into a Regiment Numbered the fifth Regiment second Cohort
On the 23rd day of June 1843 the 5 Regiment second Cohort as above was organized and Major was elected Colonel and Captain Lieutenant Colonel and Captain Major of the Same, it then consisted of 4 companies,
On the 21 day of July 1843 Lieutenant Colonel was elected Colonel of the first Regiment second Cohort to fill the vacan[c]y of Colonel resigned.
On the 3rd Saturday of September 1843 the <> paraded on the same parade ground as last me[n]tioned & was reviewed by Commanded by General the ranking officer of the Line and reviewed by Lieutenant General Joseph Smith who made an eloquent speech on the increasing prosperity of the Legion and requested the officers to increase the Legion both in numbers and military knowledge.
